Albaraka Turk Sells Products By Force
I have been using the safe deposit box at the Istanbul Albaraka Türk branch since 2016. When we initially requested the safe in 2016, we applied without any conditions, and there was nothing to the contrary in our contract. However, this year, when we sought to renew our safe deposit box, we were informed that in order to continue using it and to prevent unilateral cancellation by the bank, we needed to set up a ₺250 participation account automatic payment instruction and maintain a minimum balance of ₺1000 in the account. Otherwise, the accounts linked to the safe deposit box would be deactivated, and daily late payment interest would be charged.
According to the contract, the customer cannot be compelled to purchase any product they did not request. It is neither fair nor ethical for the branch to subject an existing customer to such transactions solely for the benefit of another customer. We request an immediate correction of this mistake. It is unacceptable for the bank to impose such requirements when no other bank practices this. I pay for the service I receive, and it is not stipulated in the law, regulations, or the bank contract that refusal to purchase products against my will would result in termination of the current service.
I request a thorough investigation into this issue and that the official findings be communicated to me. Due to the bank's imposition of forced sales, there has been unilateral cancellation of the cash register. Branch employees have informed us that failure to comply with their demands will result in account deactivation and unilateral cancellation of the cash register. We request the appointment of an inspector to examine the branch.
