Terrible Experience With Agoda Customer Service

I made and fully paid a hotel reservation through Agoda, Booking ID 1990988557, for Motel 6 Campbell, CA – San Jose for the dates 13 March 2026 to 20 March 2026. The total amount I paid to Agoda was SAR 5,286.29 (USD 1,408.81). I flew transatlantic to reach San Jose, California, but due to multiple connecting flights being cancelled or delayed, I was unable to check in on 13 March and only managed to arrive on 15 March 2026. When I arrived, the motel understood my situation and cancelled my booking without any penalties or charges. They also issued a receipt clearly stating that they had not charged anything for my stay. Based on this, on 15 March 2026 I contacted Agoda via the mobile app and email, submitted the receipt from the motel, and requested a full refund of my prepaid booking. Initially, Agoda informed me that they had tried to call the property but received no response. Later, they stated that they did reach the motel and that the property agreed to a full refund. Despite this, Agoda then said that the cancellation receipt from the motel was not sufficient for refund approval and asked me to obtain an email from the property. I followed their instructions, and the motel sent an email clearly authorizing a full refund and confirming they had not charged anything. Even after providing both the official receipt and the email confirmation from the motel, I still have not received my refund of SAR 5,286.29 (USD 1,408.81), and Agoda has stopped responding properly to my requests despite my written communications through the app and email. I find it unacceptable that, although the property has clearly confirmed they did not charge me and have explicitly authorized a full refund, Agoda is still holding my money. I request that Agoda immediately process a full refund of the amount I paid for this reservation, SAR 5,286.29 (USD 1,408.81), and provide a clear written confirmation of the refund and an explanation for the delay and contradictory handling of my case.

After more than two dozen emails and messages, Agoda finally refunded all my money. Thanks for that. However, customer service really needs to improve if this company wants to stay in business. I was extremely frustrated when one customer service agent told me, “The receipt of refund that the motel management provided to you, indicating that the refund was made to Agoda without any charges, is INVALID.” For God’s sake, please employ sensible people who know how to communicate with customers instead of making false accusations. The receipt was 100% genuine and generated from the Motel 6 system. Anyway, the issue has now been resolved, and to whoever handled this on Agoda’s side—thank you. Otherwise, I would have filed a complaint with my bank.
