Trip.com Incorrect Name Change Caused Boarding Denial

May 18 7:26 PM

We purchased two airline tickets through Trip.com for a Wizz Air flight from Ankara to Budapest. Our departure date is May 18, 2026, and we are currently at Ankara Esenboğa Airport. Before the trip, I updated the first passenger's information through Trip.com and requested a name correction. During that process, I was explicitly informed that the change would not cause any problems with the reservation or the flight, so I completed the request with confidence.

However, when we arrived at the airport to check in, the Wizz Air staff informed us that the name change was not valid, that the issue originated with Trip.com, and that the affected passenger would not be allowed to board. We are now stranded at the airport and have been told that we must purchase new tickets. We already paid ₺6,994.90 for this trip for two passengers, and we have also been told that new tickets are no longer available. We have noticed that several other passengers appear to be experiencing similar problems as well.

Our reservation details are as follows: Outbound: first passenger IJEU7C, second passenger BGZIFL. Return: first passenger QG8KWB, second passenger ZWE26T. After discovering the problem, I repeatedly tried to contact Trip.com's customer service and in-app support, but I was unable to reach a live representative. I was only connected to an automated AI chatbot that was unable to resolve my issue. I have also been unable to cancel the tickets.

Because we were misinformed about the name change, have now been left unable to travel, and are facing significant financial losses, I request either a full refund of the amount we paid or that our flights be honored on the same travel dates without requiring us to pay any additional fees. I also request a clear explanation of why this situation occurred and ask Trip.com to improve its procedures so that other travelers do not experience the same problem.
