Wizz Air Refused Boarding Despite Confirmed Name Correction
Through Trip.com, we purchased round-trip Wizz Air tickets for travel to Budapest between May 18 and May 20, 2026. My daughter completed the booking. While entering my passenger information, she accidentally used my married last name instead of my current legal last name. She immediately contacted Trip.com to request that my surname be corrected, and Trip.com explicitly confirmed that the correction had been completed and that we would not encounter any issues with the flight.
Because this correction had been made about a month before our departure, we traveled to Ankara Esenboğa Airport on May 18, 2026, fully expecting everything to proceed normally. During check-in, my daughter's ticket was approved without any problems. However, my ticket was rejected because of the surname issue, and I was told that I would not be allowed to board the flight. Even though we presented the email from Trip.com confirming that my surname had already been corrected, Wizz Air refused to offer any solution. The only option we were given was to purchase a new ticket, so we were unable to take our flight and had no choice but to return home.
As a result of this situation, I am requesting reimbursement for all of the financial losses we suffered, including ₺6,994.90 for two airline tickets, ₺4,234.00 for our two-night hotel reservation, ₺2,500 for two international departure tax payments, and approximately ₺2,500 for transportation to and from the airport. All of these payments were made by credit card, and I request that any refund be credited back to the same card.
I believe we were unfairly disadvantaged because we made no mistake during the reservation or travel process. Trip.com provided written confirmation that my surname had been successfully updated, yet Wizz Air failed to recognize or process that correction. I respectfully request that this matter be resolved as soon as possible and that I receive reimbursement for all of the expenses outlined above.
