(+94) is Sri Lanka’s country code, but scammers worldwide often use such numbers to pose as lenders.

If a random WhatsApp contact offers you a loan, it’s almost certainly fraudulent, since legitimate banks and finance companies do not cold-message customers this way.

Check for obvious signs: poor grammar, urgency, requests for upfront fees, or links to unofficial websites are all classic scam tactics. Even if they share documents or IDs, these can be forged or stolen, so do not trust them at face value.

The safest step is to ignore, block, and report the number directly in WhatsApp. If you genuinely need a loan, only apply through your bank’s official website, licensed lenders listed by local regulators, or verified financial institutions.

Never send personal details, banking info, or copies of your ID to such contacts. Once scammers have those details, they can commit identity theft or drain your accounts.
