WhatsApp keeps showing messages from +254 numbers, how do I know if they’re dangerous?

Kenya's country code is +254, and you should be careful if you keep getting WhatsApp texts from numbers you don't know.

International codes are often used by scammers to get people to answer, especially if you don't have any friends or business contacts in that country.

Check the sender's WhatsApp page. Trustworthy businesses may have a green "verified" badge, but not having one doesn't mean the sender is safe or not dangerous.

Requests for money, personal information, or links that make you enter your login or banking information are all red flags.

To be safe, don't answer, block the number, and report it in WhatsApp so Meta can look into it. You can also turn off unknown callers by going to Settings > Privacy > Messages > Silence unknown calls.
