Unlike what they said I'm finding it difficult to drill precise pilot holes with Ryobi, what am I doing wrong?

Consider your drill bit. Since twist bits may not be as accurate, use a brad point drill bit for precise drilling. A dull bit can cause wandering and imprecision, so sharpen or replace it.

Maintain proper drilling techniques. Use light, steady pressure to keep the bit from wandering, and make a small indentation with an awl or nail to start. To avoid angled or off-center holes, keep the drill straight and perpendicular to the work surface.

Check drill settings. The pilot hole speed should be slower for control and cleaner cuts. Use drilling mode, not hammer mode, which is for masonry and can damage wood.

Clamp your workpiece to reduce movement and drill on scrap wood to practice before your final project. Attention to these details should help your Ryobi drill make more precise pilot holes.
