I took the Free Autism Test on Personality.co on 16 November 2025. The test was clearly advertised in Google search results as a “free autism test,” and the landing page I was directed to did not mention any payment. I proceeded through a lengthy multi‑page questionnaire, then a completion page, and another page showing the report being generated. Only after all of this, on the page stating that my report was ready, was payment first mentioned as a low‑cost payment of 1.95€ to access my results. What began as a free test was then presented as a small, one‑time fee. At no point during the test flow was there any clear mention that I was signing up for an ongoing subscription. On the payment page, the main, prominent impression was that I was paying a one‑off 1.95€ to see my results. The existence of a recurring monthly subscription was not presented in a clear, prominent, or transparent way that would allow for informed consent; instead, the subscription terms appeared only in very small print beneath the primary payment information and again in fine print in the welcome email after I had already paid. I did not knowingly or intentionally authorize recurring monthly charges of 39.95€ per month. Nevertheless, starting on 23 November 2025, I was charged 39.95€ every month, for a total of six charges. I contacted Personality.co customer service, and they refunded only one of these six monthly payments, stating that it was against their policy to refund more. Given that the test was advertised as free, that I was led to believe I was making a single low‑cost payment of 1.95€ for access to my results, and that the recurring subscription information was effectively hidden in fine print, I believe these charges were not properly authorized. I request that the remaining five 39.95€ charges be fully refunded and that no further charges be made to my account associated with my email address. Additionally, I ask Personality.co to stop advertising free tests when the results are in fact paywalled and tied to a recurring subscription that is not clearly disclosed, particularly given that this service is aimed at vulnerable populations such as autistic individuals. I expect Personality.co to review and change its practices so that any paid or subscription elements are displayed in a clear, prominent and transparent way before users invest time in the test or enter their payment details.
