A plastic taste from an Owala bottle after a few weeks is often caused by residue buildup from drinks or soap trapped in the lid, straw, or silicone gasket.

If these parts are not cleaned regularly, bacteria or leftover detergent can create unusual tastes even when the bottle looks clean.

Another common cause is odor absorption from drinks other than water, such as juice, coffee, or flavored beverages.

Plastic and silicone components can sometimes retain flavors over time, especially if the bottle is left closed while still damp.

To fix the issue, disassemble the lid and wash all parts with warm water and mild dish soap, then soak them briefly in a mixture of baking soda or vinegar and water to remove lingering odors.

Rinse thoroughly and allow every part to dry completely before reassembling the bottle.

If the taste continues even after deep cleaning, the silicone gasket or straw may have absorbed odors permanently, which sometimes happens with frequent use.

Replacing these small parts is usually inexpensive and often restores the bottle’s normal taste.
