I'm Demanding MSI Fix a Known Chronic Fan Defect Without Voiding My Warranty
About four months ago, I purchased an MSI Infinite S3 model pre-built desktop computer, choosing it over other brands on the market because I trusted MSI's quality and its worldwide reputation and prestige. However, for about the past month, the computer's CPU fan has been producing an extremely loud and disturbing noise. Based on my own research and reviews on user forums, I've learned that the APA9225H12 model CPU fan used in this series has a chronic problem, and that almost every user who bought this model suffers from the same fan-related noise issue. I believe this reflects a hidden manufacturing defect, which is completely unbefitting of a major brand like MSI.
When I contacted MSI's support team, I encountered an attitude that was completely at odds with the great vision the brand claims to have — one that left the consumer at a disadvantage and was in no way constructive. When I wanted to replace the fan myself or perform maintenance and lubrication on it, I was told this would void the warranty. When I only wanted to send in the fan, I was told the entire case would need to be sent to service as a single unit.
The reason I chose MSI over other brands on the market, paying a higher price, was both to use a quality product and to have a solution-oriented, world-class company to turn to if I ever ran into a problem. However, being forced to have the entire case sit in service for weeks over a simple fan replacement means being deprived of my computer, which I actively use for work and education — and this approach is entirely unbefitting of MSI's name and its supposed commitment to customer satisfaction. This choice, made by trusting MSI's quality, has unfortunately left me deeply disappointed.
Additionally, the links below contain numerous complaints, fan noise recordings, and error threads about the same model and similar fan issues; these posts support that the problem I'm experiencing is not an isolated case, but rather stems from a chronic, defective product:
