LG Refrigerator Motor Failed Twice in 3.5 Years and Warranty Doesn’t Cover Labor
The motor of my LG side-by-side refrigerator has broken down twice within 3.5 years. The first time, it failed only three months after purchase, so they replaced the unit. However, the motor of the new refrigerator also failed last week, after just 3 years and 3 months. I knew from the large sticker on the unit that the motor had a 10-year warranty, so I thought the costs would at least be limited to the spoiled food in the freezer and upper section. However, the technicians informed me that while the warranty covers the part, I would have to pay for the labor, which they quoted at over ₺7,000. I then contacted LG’s authorized service, explaining that if the motor, which is under warranty, hadn’t failed, I wouldn’t need this labor service. I pointed out that the sticker prominently states a 10-year motor warranty without clarifying it’s only for the part (which is misleading, as it gives the impression that any motor-related issue would be fully covered under warranty). Furthermore, it seems unreasonable for a refrigerator motor to fail twice in 3.5 years, and therefore, LG should cover the labor as well. They initially promised a response within two days, but it took five days in what felt like a token, drawn-out process. After nearly a week without a refrigerator, they finally told me that I would need to pay for the labor since the warranty period had technically expired. I question the quality of a refrigerator that experiences two motor failures in such a short time. Additionally, LG has shown no effort to ensure my satisfaction as a customer, instead prolonging an unnecessary process and leaving me without a refrigerator for nearly a week.
