JustAnswer Added Hidden Extra Fees Without Clear Disclosure or Consent
I signed up to JustAnswer from New Zealand on 8 December at around 14:00 (NZ time) because the site clearly showed a $10 charge, which I considered fair in order to get help with understanding why two parcels of mine were sitting unsent in a Chinese warehouse. I proceeded with the payment on the basis that the cost was $10 NZ. After paying, I discovered that an additional $60 NZ had also been taken from my card. I had not been clearly informed that any extra fee would be charged. When I contacted customer care, I was told that the actual fees are “clearly disclosed” in policies and procedures, but in my experience this information is effectively hidden and requires searching through fine print that is very hard to notice. I feel this is misleading and that I have been charged for something that was not transparently presented at the time of payment. I accept the original $10 NZ charge, but I do not accept the extra $60 NZ. If these additional fees had been clearly and prominently presented at the payment stage, I would never have proceeded or exposed my credit card details. I therefore request an immediate refund of the $60 NZ that was taken without my informed consent and the cancellation of any ongoing or hidden subscription or membership linked to my card, so that no further charges are made.
