Huawei Watch GT 5 Exploded While Charging With Original Cable
On September 1, my Huawei Watch GT 5 smartwatch exploded while it was charging with the original charging cable. Fortunately, only the watch itself was affected by the explosion, and neither I nor anything around me suffered physical damage. However, the incident created a serious safety and trust concern.
Following the incident, I sent the product to an authorized service center. After inspection, I was informed that the damage was considered user error because the watch had allegedly suffered water damage, and I was charged $221 for the repair. However, this is a model that was sold as water-resistant, and I had owned the watch for less than a year. I do not accept being held entirely responsible on the grounds that the device allegedly suffered water damage despite its advertised water-resistant features, nor do I accept being charged such a high repair fee. Even though I used the original charging cable for the entire charging process, the watch exploded on its own while charging, creating a serious safety risk. I request that this incident not be treated as user error and that the $221 repair charge be canceled. I also ask Huawei to conduct a new inspection and repair the watch free of charge under warranty, or provide an appropriate solution that adequately addresses the inconvenience and safety concerns I have experienced.
