Honda PCX ECU Failure At 34,000 km With No Clear Cause
I own a 2023 Honda PCX motorcycle and recently experienced a serious brain (ECU) failure at around 34,000 km. While there was no obvious reason and all the electrical buttons and systems on the motorcycle were still working, the starter suddenly stopped working and the engine would not start. I took the motorcycle to Honda Plaza Marmara authorized service, where I was told at first that they did not know exactly what caused the problem and that it might be due to a previous accident I had. At that moment I accepted this as a possibility. However, after the repair was completed, I asked again whether the fault was related to the accident, and this time I received contradictory answers. The service told me that there was no damage detected either in the wiring harness or in the ECU, but despite this, they could not provide a clear explanation for the cause of the problem and continued to allude to my previous accident. In other words, they confirmed that there was no damage in the relevant parts, yet they were still implying that the accident could be the reason. At one point, I was even told that this was a matter of “luck”, which made me feel as if I was being blamed for choosing Honda. Hearing such a vague and unsatisfactory explanation from an authorized service for a critical malfunction was extremely disappointing for me. Since my motorcycle is out of warranty, I had to cover the entire cost of the ECU-related repair myself. The procedure cost was ₺45,000 and thanks to the company I work for I received a small discount, but I still paid a very significant amount out of my own pocket. What troubles me most is not only the cost, but also the fact that at 34,000 km such a major failure occurs on a Honda motorcycle while people ride Chinese motorcycles for 50,000–60,000 km without such issues. Despite the obvious problem with the motorcycle, I feel as though I have been presented as the one at fault, and I have not been given a clear, technical explanation. I did not contact Honda customer service separately; instead, I preferred to deal directly with the authorized service, assuming that this would be the most accurate and effective way. However, at the service there was no place or authority where I could properly object or submit a formal complaint. I was told indirectly that since the motorcycle was out of warranty, this was simply my responsibility, and I was left without any satisfactory written or technical justification. Being told that a ₺45,000 repair is almost a matter of “luck” and receiving no detailed explanation is, in my opinion, a very serious problem in terms of both product reliability and after-sales service approach. I request that Honda examine my motorcycle and this ECU failure in detail, provide me with a clear and written technical explanation and evaluation report, and carry out the necessary investigation into whether this failure is due to a manufacturing or quality issue. In addition, considering that no concrete link to the accident was identified, yet I was still forced to pay a very high amount with contradictory and vague statements, I demand a refund of the amount I paid for this repair, or at least a fair and reasonable compensation. I expect this situation to be taken seriously, my case to be reviewed in detail, and for me to receive an official response that will restore my trust.
I had to pay ₺45,000 for the ECU repair out of my own pocket. However, the service center did not clearly explain the cause of the problem. At first, they claimed that I was responsible because of an accident, but later they gave a vague explanation, referring to it as simply “bad luck.” I found this explanation illogical and insufficient. I was never provided with any written technical report. They stated that since the issue was outside the warranty coverage, the responsibility belonged to me. Despite this, no satisfactory technical explanation was given regarding the actual cause of the failure. My request for a detailed explanation and reimbursement of the ₺45,000 I paid remains unanswered.
