I purchased a 2020 Ford Focus 1.5 EcoBlue with 43,500 miles on January 8, 2024. On April 29, 2024, I took it to Ford Tanoto dealership in Ankara for routine maintenance at 49,400 miles. Post-service, they reported oil leaks from the camshaft cover and oil pan plugs, plus a water leak from the water pump.
With my car under warranty until October 28, 2024, Tanoto scheduled a warranty repair. I returned on June 7, 2024, but was shocked when they called saying the repairs weren't covered due to previous late maintenance. They demanded ₺65,000 for repairs!
Frustrated, I took my car to my father-in-law's mechanic. Lifting the car, we found no oil or water leaks. The only issue was noise from the timing chain, which the mechanic said was a common problem for this model year, requiring a higher-quality replacement.
The mechanic explained that Tanoto likely wanted to replace the entire timing set and water pump during the chain replacement, hence the inflated cost.
I'm seeking understanding from Otosan regarding Tanoto's false diagnosis and their decision to void my warranty based on the previous owner's maintenance schedule. I prefer using authorized services, but this experience makes it hard to recommend.
I wouldn't object if there were genuine major issues, but being charged ₺65,000 for a factory defect and non-existent problems is unacceptable for Ford and Otosan's reputation.
