FedEx Customs Fees Added After Alibaba Shipment Arrived

June 27 1:53 PM

I placed an order in the clothing category through Alibaba, and my shipment was sent from China to Turkey via FedEx. My package has been stuck in customs in Istanbul since June 23. Before I placed the order, I was specifically encouraged to choose FedEx because I was told the shipment would be handled smoothly and would clear customs without any problems. However, after the products were sold and the shipping fee had already been collected, the situation changed completely, and I started receiving demands for substantial additional charges.

My tracking number is 873125530272. After collecting payment for both the products and international shipping, FedEx and the other parties involved informed me that I would now have to pay nearly $430 in additional fees for items such as a delivery order fee, customs brokerage services, and warehouse storage. I am fully prepared to pay the legal import taxes required for my shipment, but I do not accept these unexpected extra charges. Being told before the purchase that "FedEx will deliver your shipment without any issues" and then being presented with hundreds of dollars in additional costs afterward is, in my opinion, misleading and unfair.

During this process, I contacted FedEx by email and also spoke with representatives through live chat. Unfortunately, I was not offered any meaningful solution. Instead, I was simply told that I needed to hire a customs broker and pay warehouse storage fees for every additional day my shipment remained at customs. I already paid a significant international shipping fee with the expectation that my package would be delivered safely to my address. Instead, I am now being asked to pay excessive additional fees while no one accepts responsibility for the promises that were made before the purchase. As a customer, I feel abandoned and unfairly treated.

I want the commitments made to me before I placed my order to be honored. I am willing to pay the applicable import tax, which is approximately 60% of the value of my products, but I should not be forced to pay customs brokerage fees, FedEx documentation charges, or similar additional costs that were never disclosed upfront. I request that these extra expenses be covered by FedEx or the responsible parties involved in the international shipment, that I be required to pay only the legally applicable import taxes, and that my package be cleared through customs and delivered to my address as quickly as possible. I also ask FedEx's international operations to resolve this situation and compensate for the hardship and inconvenience I have experienced.
