Europcar Athens Rental Vehicle Robbed Twice Without Forced Entry Signs

On July 23, 2026, we rented a vehicle from the Europcar Athens location through Booking.com. Although we reserved an Opel Corsa, they insisted on giving us a Ford Focus instead. Despite being locked, this vehicle was broken into twice within the last two days in busy areas equipped with security cameras. The vehicle was accessed without any signs of forced entry, as if the key had been cloned, and we cannot fathom how such a security vulnerability could exist in a newer vehicle.

As a result of these two theft incidents, our passports, ID cards, credit cards, official documents, personal belongings, and cash were stolen, resulting in a total loss of over $1,147 for my friends and me. We reported the incidents to official authorities, and a formal lost property report was issued to us.

When we returned the vehicle, we explained our situation in detail to the staff at the drop-off location. However, the employees' attitude was extremely indifferent and rude; they offered no explanation and chose to remain silent, almost as if feeling guilty themselves. As customers, we felt completely abandoned and unsafe.

We believe that the Europcar Athens office is responsible for the security of the vehicle it rents and must provide an explanation as to how the vehicle key could be cloned or how vehicle security could be breached so easily. To resolve our grievance, we demand full compensation for our total damages, including our lost belongings and cash, as well as a thorough investigation and a detailed written explanation regarding the matter. My reservation number is 797711210.
