Duolingo Charged Me Without Consent After a Free Trial
After starting a free trial on the Duolingo English app, I was charged on the credit card linked to my Google account without my consent or any prior notification. Today, I noticed multiple charges listed under the name Duolingo Family Annual, each for HKD 928, with the total amount appearing on my card statement as 5,742.07. I received no clear warning that the free trial would automatically convert to a paid subscription, nor did I authorize this charge.
I absolutely do not accept these charges, which appear on my card registered through Google under transaction number 515053. The lack of transparency about how and when the subscription was converted to a paid plan, along with the unauthorized charge of such a high amount in a foreign currency instead of Turkish lira, has caused me serious financial harm.
I demand an immediate and full refund of the total 5,742.07 charged to my card without my authorization or consent, as well as the cancellation of the associated subscription. Otherwise, I will file a complaint with the Consumer Arbitration Committee and the relevant official authorities.
