Dell Inspiron 15 Hinge Broke Within the Warranty Period
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop, and while using it under normal conditions, the hinge broke on its own without being dropped, hit, or subjected to any kind of misuse. Experiencing such a serious hardware failure on a laptop that is less than one year old is unacceptable, especially when it should have been addressed under the manufacturer's warranty.
I shipped the laptop to Dell's authorized service center for warranty repair. Instead of honoring the warranty, I was told that replacing the hinge would cost approximately $380. I took excellent care of the laptop and did nothing that could have caused the damage, so I refused to pay such an excessive repair charge for what I believe is a manufacturing defect. I then requested that the unrepaired laptop be returned to me. At that point, I was informed that I would also have to pay approximately $51 in shipping charges before my laptop would be sent back.
I am extremely disappointed that Dell has refused to treat the hinge failure as a warranty issue and has instead demanded such excessive repair and return shipping fees. As a young customer, being faced with these unexpected costs for a product that failed so quickly has completely undermined my confidence in the brand. I respectfully request that Dell recognize the hinge failure as a warranty-covered defect, cancel the $380 repair charge and the $51 return shipping fee, repair my laptop free of charge, and return it to me without any additional cost.
