Booking.com Failed to Protect Non-Refundable Booking After Host Error

On November 6, 2025, I made a non-refundable reservation through Booking.com for a property in Colmar, France called “Le Red St Léon – Queen Size Bed * Wi-Fi * Ideal for Couples,” for the dates December 20–23, 2025, under reservation code 5215150850. I paid approximately $1,620 USD by credit card.

Recently, I received an email from the host stating that the property had been rented to other guests and that I needed to cancel my reservation myself. After this, I contacted Booking.com by both phone and email. I was told that my issue would be resolved, that they would help me find accommodation, and that if I could not find a place in the same price range, Booking.com would cover the price difference and assist me in securing a new stay.

However, today I received a new email from Booking.com stating that they could offer only €60, and once again asking me to cancel the reservation myself. Even though my booking was not made with free cancellation, being asked to cancel it personally, without a clear and guaranteed refund process, has caused serious concern. Additionally, similar accommodations in Colmar have now increased to around $2,260 USD, which has placed us under significant financial and emotional strain. With only one week left before our trip, we still have not been able to secure alternative accommodation, and the stress of this situation is severely affecting our vacation plans.

I request that Booking.com cancel the reservation directly, issue a full and prompt refund of the amount I paid, and cover the price difference for a comparable accommodation in Colmar for the same dates. I also request that the hardship we have experienced throughout this process be properly addressed and resolved.
