Amazon Scam Alert via Facebook – Fake Fraud Call and Suspicious Phone Number
I live in Indiana, USA and today I received a suspicious fraud alert on Facebook that appeared to be about my Amazon account. The message claimed that I had made an Amazon purchase of about $178 and stated that I needed to contact a phone number immediately. The number given in the message was 1-833-480-1511. When I called this number, the person identified himself as Albert W*** with badge number 71*** and said he was from Amazon fraud detection. During the call, Albert W***then transferred me to another person who identified herself as Jennifer W*** with badge number FTC04***. This entire setup made the call sound official, but I did not make any such purchase and I am very concerned that this was an attempt to scam me using Amazon’s name. I did not share any personal or financial information with them. Because the original alert came via Facebook and the situation involved these names, badge numbers, and this phone number instead of Amazon’s normal channels, I strongly suspect this was a scam attempt. I am requesting that Amazon investigate this phone number, the Facebook message, and the individuals using the names Albert W*** (badge 71***) and Jennifer W*** (badge FTC04***), and confirm whether any of this is actually associated with Amazon. If this is not legitimate, I would like Amazon to treat it as a fraud attempt, take any possible action against those responsible, and provide guidance on how I can best protect my account and report such scams properly.
