Amazon Refund Complaint And Gift Card Problems

I placed an order on Amazon on 7 November and cancelled it on the same day, choosing the refund-to-card option. However, despite this clear selection, my refund was not returned to my credit card and was instead defined as an Amazon gift card balance without my consent. To this day, no refund has been credited back to my card. My order number is 406-3800108-8598705 and the purchase was paid by credit card. I called Amazon customer service many times, and each time I was told that the refund would be made back to my credit card and that I just needed to wait. I was not properly informed at any point that the refund would be converted into a gift card, nor that card refunds were allegedly not possible for such orders. About a month later, when I contacted customer service again, I was suddenly informed that card refunds are not made for gift card–related orders. When I asked why I had not been clearly told this before, the only response I received was an apology. When I requested where exactly this rule was written, I was first told it was in the “returns process” section. When I pointed out that it was not stated there, I was then told that I had accepted this when I first became a member, but the representative also stated that they could not send me the agreement. I find it unacceptable that I selected a card refund, was repeatedly told that the refund would be made to my credit card, and yet my money was held as a gift card balance without clear and transparent information. I kindly request that the full amount of this order be refunded directly to my credit card as originally selected, and that I receive a clear written explanation detailing under which terms and where it is stated that refunds for such orders cannot be made to the card.
