Airbnb Property Misrepresentation and Host Refund Issue in İzmir
We booked an Airbnb property expecting it to match the photos, but upon arrival, the reality was completely different. The staircase was dangerously steep, the neighborhood was in poor condition, and the house itself was dim and lacked natural light. The area was full of dead-end streets, making it difficult to find the property. This was especially unsuitable for the elderly family members traveling with us.
After explaining our concerns to the host, D.Y., they admitted the property wasn’t ideal for our situation and proposed a refund arrangement. They requested we not cancel the reservation so Airbnb could release the payment to them, promising to send us the full amount after receiving it. Trusting this agreement, we accepted and left.
However, for three months, the host has avoided fulfilling their promise, offering excuses and now refusing to answer our calls. This disappointing experience in İzmir’s Konak region highlights a lack of accountability from both the host and Airbnb. I hope this issue is resolved soon, and I urge Airbnb to enforce stricter measures to protect guests from such misrepresentation and unreliable hosts.
