Air Canada lost my luggage during my flight, how can I get compensation for the inconvenience?

If Air Canada loses your luggage, you are entitled to compensation under the Montreal Convention and the airline's baggage policy.

Report the loss to the Air Canada Baggage Service Office at your arrival airport and fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). This report serves as the foundation for tracking and compensatory claims. You will be given a reference number for any follow-up.

If your baggage is not found within 21 days, it is declared lost and you may file a claim for compensation.

Air Canada accepts claims for essential items purchased due to the delay, as well as the total value of lost items, up to a maximum of about $2,300 CAD.

Submit your claim using their online Baggage Claims form, or call Baggage Customer Service at 1-888-689-2247 for assistance.

Keep all receipts for expenses and make sure your claim contains itemised data about missing items. Check if your travel insurance offers additional compensation.

Air Canada normally handles claims within 30 days, however more documentation may be required for complex circumstances.

If not, please feel free to share your experience. You can also file a complaint on our website.
