Agoda Hotel Booking Cancelled Without Notice Despite Full Payment

I am filing a formal legal complaint regarding a serious violation of consumer rights involving my hotel booking made through Agoda. Despite making full payment and having confirmed reservations, my booking was cancelled without prior notice, and I was denied accommodation, resulting in emotional distress and financial loss. Reservation details: Confirmation Numbers – 562139179 Ref#5989399121 (1 Room) for August 3–4, 2025, and 562138719 Ref#5336005789 (2 Rooms) for August 3–4, 2025; Hotel – Avicennia Beach Domes; Location – Raysut 1, Salalah, Oman; Payment Method – full amount charged to VISA. Both bookings were non-refundable, and payment was deducted at the time of confirmation. The confirmation email contained no contact number for the hotel. On August 3, 2025, while traveling, my car broke down in a remote area with no internet access. When I arrived at 1:00 a.m. on August 4, I was told my reservation had been cancelled and two of the three rooms were reassigned to other guests. Even after presenting proof of payment and confirmation, the hotel insisted they had not received payment and refused accommodation, forcing us to sleep on the street. I contacted Agoda several times through chat, phone, and email for over a month, but their responses were inconsistent. Agoda blamed the hotel and requested a waiver confirmation to issue a refund, while the hotel remained unresponsive and denied payment. Agoda later confirmed that the hotel demanded 100% cancellation charges but could not proceed without confirmation from them. This left me stuck between Agoda and the hotel, each denying responsibility. I paid in full, did not cancel, and arrived within the check-in window, yet I was denied service and subjected to hardship. This constitutes fraudulent cancellation and an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. I request full reimbursement and compensation for the distress caused, and I urge immediate legal action to recover my funds and hold the responsible parties accountable.
