Yamaha Authorized Service Charges $225 for Premature Brake Disc Wear on Xmax
In March 2026, I purchased my brand-new 2025 Yamaha Xmax motorcycle. For my first service, I went to the Yamaha Premium authorized service center in Eyüp, Istanbul at around 2,000 km, where routine maintenance was performed. Shortly after this service, I began hearing an intermittent whistling-like noise coming from the rear of the motorcycle.
Thereupon, I called the authorized service center to report this noise, asking where it might be coming from and whether there was a defect with the motorcycle. During the call, they asked for details regarding my helmet, which I provided. Despite this, they persistently claimed that the noise was likely coming from the helmet and suggested that I continue riding for a while longer and bring it in if the noise escalated. Following their guidance, I continued using the motorcycle.
Over the past week, the noise increased significantly, coinciding with the upcoming 5,000 km routine service. On August 11, 2026, I made an appointment with the same service center and specifically asked them to inspect the sound. After the inspection, they informed me that both the rear brake pads and the brake disc were completely worn out and required replacement. I explained the situation, reminding them that I had previously called about this exact noise; despite this, they asserted that it was entirely user error and claimed no service staff member would ever suggest "the noise is from the helmet." When I requested to listen to past call records, they dismissed the topic by stating "that's in the past."
Service/invoice record 084110 was generated for this procedure, demanding a fee of approximately $225. No reasonable explanation was provided for how the rear disc and pads of such a new motorcycle could wear down in so short a time. Furthermore, despite calling the service center at around 2,500–3,000 km to report the issue, my complaint was disregarded, and responsibility was shifted entirely onto me. I hold official documentation from the service acknowledging the existence of this fault.
I demand that Yamaha review this incident, conduct a proper technical evaluation, refrain from dismissing the defect as user error, resolve my grievance regarding the rear brake pad and disc replacement, and cover the requested $225 expense under warranty.
