Wise Account Hacked and $14,000 Unauthorized Transfers Not Refunded
On 2 September 2026 my phone and laptop were hacked and the attacker gained access to my Wise account. Without my knowledge or consent, this person made two transfers from my Wise balance for a total of 14,000 USD. As soon as I managed to access my account again and saw these unauthorized transfers, I immediately contacted Wise support, explained that my account had been hacked, and asked them to stop the payments and return my money. Instead of protecting me as a clear victim of fraud, Wise closed my account and informed me that they would conduct an investigation that could take up to three days. However, only a few hours later I received what appeared to be an automatic response stating that they could not do anything. This decision was made despite the fact that I had provided all the evidence I have, including receipts for the two transfers and WhatsApp messages that clearly show how the attacker used my WhatsApp and that I do not know this person at all. Because Wise did not block or reverse the transfers and apparently handed the money to the scammer without even asking for any proof of the transfers (such as proof of purchase, salary, or any real relationship between me and the recipient), I have lost 14,000 USD and my Wise account was permanently closed. This situation has caused me severe panic attacks on the same day and has put me into a serious financial crisis. I have reported this fraud to several authorities and organizations including Report Fraud in the UK, the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), NYDOF, BBB and NYPD, and I am still looking for other competent bodies to inform. Despite all this, Wise has not returned my funds. As a clear victim of fraud, my expectation from Wise is that they urgently review this case again, recognize these transfers as unauthorized, and fully refund the 14,000 USD that was sent to the scammer, as well as provide a clear explanation as to why my initial complaint and evidence were dismissed so quickly. In addition to refunding my money, I also expect Wise to seriously consider compensating me for the emotional distress and panic attacks caused by the way my case was handled and by the refusal to protect me as a fraud victim.
