I purchased a rug from Tribal Rug Store in Fatih, Istanbul on 18 April 2026. The rug was sold to me as a power-loomed “silk on silk” rug according to the certificate they provided, but I later discovered that it was actually made of bamboo silk and not real silk, which means the product was misrepresented at the time of sale. When I realized this, I immediately cancelled the purchase in the store. The rug was never mailed to me and remained with the seller. I had paid a total of $2,800 by credit card. During the cancellation, the store informed me that there was a 10% credit card fee for cancelling the transaction. Based on this claim, they refunded only $2,500 to me in cash and kept the remaining $300. They did not provide any receipt or written confirmation of the cancellation or the cash refund, which I believe was done intentionally to avoid leaving proof of their actions. After investigating, I learned that charging a 10% “credit card fee” in this way is improper, especially when combined with the fact that the rug was not the “silk on silk” product that was presented to me. I believe this situation is in violation of Turkish consumer protection laws because of both the misrepresentation of the product and the unfair deduction during cancellation. I am going to speak with my bank regarding this transaction. As the consumer, I request that the remaining $300 be refunded to me so that I am made whole for the misrepresentation of the material (bamboo silk instead of real silk) and the unjustified credit card fee that was applied during the cancellation.
