Stellantis Review - Opel Crossland 1.2T Constant Engine Issues & Ineffective Service

I want to share my frustrating experience with Stellantis Türkiye and my Opel Crossland 1.2T, which has been nothing but a series of recurring engine problems and poor service solutions. I purchased my 2021 Opel Crossland 1.2T (license plate 34 D*49) as a second-hand vehicle 1.5 years ago**, trusting the reputation of Opel's German engineering. However, just a few months after purchasing the car, the check engine light turned on.
Since there was no Opel service in my city, I had to drive to another province to have it checked. The service center simply reset the error and sent me back, only for the same issue to reappear on my way home. I returned to the service center once more, but nothing changed.
Later, a new Opel service opened in my city, so I took my car there, only to learn that the previous owner had already undergone major repairs, including the replacement of the engine cover and knock sensor. Despite this, my car continued to experience issues.
The new service center tried multiple fixes:
Replaced the knock sensor – the issue persisted
Changed the ignition coil – no improvement
Installed new spark plugs – problem remained
Since the issue only occurred in cold weather, the car spent 4-5 days in the service center. Eventually, they inserted a camera into the engine and found excessive carbon buildup on the pistons. Their solution? A complete engine replacement!
The worst part? They never provided a clear explanation as to why the engine needed replacement or the root cause of the issue. Opel simply dismisses the problem rather than solving it properly under warranty.
Desperate for answers, I did extensive research and found numerous complaints online about the same issue affecting many 1.2 PureTech engines. An independent mechanic in Salihli, Turkey, has identified a factory defect in these engines and claims to fix it without replacing the entire motor—unlike Stellantis' official service centers, which insist on costly engine replacements.
It’s outrageous that a car with only 10,000-15,000 km requires an engine replacement. Why does Stellantis Türkiye refuse to acknowledge this as a factory defect? Why are their service centers unable to fix the issue properly? Customers whose warranties expire are left to deal with an expensive and unjustifiable repair.
I demand:
A proper, transparent resolution to my issue without unnecessary engine replacement
Acknowledgment from Stellantis Türkiye that this is a widespread manufacturing defect
A recall or extended warranty coverage for affected Opel Crossland 1.2T owners
If Stellantis does not address this issue properly, I will not hesitate to take further action. This issue must be resolved fairly for all affected customers!
