Renault Did Not Recall My 2021 Renault Zoe and It Caught Fire in Garage
On March 12, 2021, we purchased a brand-new 2021 Renault ZOE from Tepretoğulları Renault Dealership in Istanbul, Turkey. On July 9, 2025, at around 00:20 AM, a fire broke out in the battery pack of our vehicle while it was parked in our apartment’s underground garage. As a result of this incident, our vehicle and another car parked next to it were completely destroyed, the building’s electrical and ventilation systems sustained severe damage, and the entire parking garage became unusable. The residents of the building suffered serious trauma, while the explosion of the battery and heavy smoke caused panic in the surrounding neighborhood. The next day, by coincidence, we came across a safety alert and recall notice issued by the European Commission for Renault ZOE models due to the risk of fire in their battery packs: (https://ec.europa.eu/safety-gate-alerts/screen/webReport/alertDetail/10005369?origin=PDF ) According to this alert, certain Renault ZOE vehicles carrying the following EC type approval codes were recalled: ‘e22007/46025119, e22007/46025120, AGVYH7 To our shock, we discovered that our vehicle registration document carries the exact same type approval code (e22007/460251*19). Despite this urgent recall notice published in 2022, our vehicle was never recalled, and our family lived for three years completely unaware of this serious life-threatening risk of fire and death. Meanwhile, in April 2025 in Maltepe and on July 31 in Osmaniye, two more Renault ZOEs that suddenly caught fire while parked. Despite reporting this situation to Renault, they showed no interest, provided me with no explanation as to why my vehicle was not recalled, and refused to compensate me for my material damages. If no action is taken, more fires and possibly fatalities will occur. I demand that Renault recall all vehicles carrying the relevant approval code, provide an explanation as to why my car has not been recalled for three years, and compensate me for my damages.
