On September 5, 2026, I flew with Lufthansa from Los Angeles to Frankfurt and then to Istanbul together with my young child. When we arrived in Istanbul, I was informed at the baggage claim that one of my suitcases had been left behind in Frankfurt and that it would be delivered to my home the next day. Inside this delayed suitcase were my HP computer, a Dyson hair styler, my child’s Nintendo device and valuable cosmetics. When the suitcase was delivered on September 8, I discovered that all of these valuable items were missing. In addition to this, my other suitcase arrived completely destroyed. Lufthansa’s ground handling representative from Çelebi at Istanbul Airport prepared an official report and assured me that Lufthansa would cover the cost of this suitcase. Because of the procedures and waiting time related to my damaged baggage, I was forced to spend about four hours at the airport at night with my young child. The transfer vehicle that was supposed to pick us up subsequently charged an extra 5,000 TL due to this extended waiting time. I also had to photograph the destroyed suitcase and then throw it into the trash, so there is no suitcase left that can be repaired. My baggage report number is ISTLIY34015. Following these events, I sent an email to Lufthansa. In their reply, I was told that I should have the suitcase repaired and that they would cover only the repair costs, which is impossible because the suitcase was so damaged that I had to dispose of it. I have been trying to resolve this issue since September 7, but no satisfactory or realistic solution has been offered so far. This situation has created both financial and emotional hardship for me, especially as I had to manage all of this while travelling alone with a young child. I request full reimbursement for the destroyed suitcase, which is worth approximately 200 USD, the extra 5,000 TL transfer fee I was forced to pay due to the delay at the airport, and the missing items from the delayed suitcase with a total value of approximately 350 USD. My trust in Lufthansa has been seriously damaged by this experience, and I do not intend to choose this airline for my future international flights. If my financial loss is not compensated as soon as possible, I would like to state that I am prepared to pursue my rights through legal channels.
