ChatGPT Assures Me a Scam Site Is Safe Despite My Repeated Doubts
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 9:11 PM, I made a purchase worth $108 from the website fa***.com.tr. Since the transaction was processed as originating from abroad, an additional fee was applied, and a total of $118 was charged to my card. Shortly after the transaction, I learned that this site was a deceptive, fraudulent address, and I currently have a total loss of $118.
I made this purchase trusting the AI application ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI. When I asked ChatGPT whether the f****.com.tr address was trustworthy, it repeatedly reassured me that the site was reliable and directed me toward it, even though I raised my suspicions and asked multiple times. Afterward, I found complaints on this platform from people who had made payments through this site and never received their products, and I also saw that the official global f****.com website explicitly identified the f***.com.tr address as a "malicious site." In addition, the confirmation email I received about the payment wasn't sent from 's domain, but from a completely different address called demotrademm.com. In my mobile banking transaction details, the recipient shows as "streetwearstyles," and even though $118 was withdrawn from my account, the transaction description shows an amount of 900.97 HKD, listed in Thai currency. There are also significant price differences between the products on the original F page and the prices on this fake site, and the site isn't listed in any official e-commerce registry — all of which are further indications that the site is fraudulent.
As soon as I noticed the situation, I called my bank on 06/27/2026 at 10:18 PM and filed a transaction dispute request, sharing my receipt's reference number, 825436. However, I believe I was harmed in this situation because I acted based on the false and misleading assurance given by ChatGPT. For this reason, I am requesting that ChatGPT/OpenAI resolve my situation and fully refund the total of $118 charged to my card. I am attaching screenshots and the written record of my conversation with ChatGPT as evidence.
