British Town Declined to Restore Two Paid English Courses
I enrolled my child in the British Town English course in Bayraklı, İzmir, starting at the beginner level, and purchased a total of four courses. After my child completed two courses, I explained that we needed to take a break because my child would be taking the LGS exam in 2025. At that time, the staff members working there verbally told me, “Have your child come back next year; they can continue, and there will be no problem,” and assured me that we could use the remaining two courses later. When I applied to continue the course this year, the representatives I first spoke with by phone and then in person told me that our entitlement had expired because one year had passed and that I would have to pay again for the remaining two courses. They stated that the contract contains a one-year time limit, that the employees who made the verbal promise no longer work at the institution, and therefore they would not help us in any way. There may be such a provision in the contract, but despite the fact that we were explicitly told, “Have your child come back next year; there will be no problem,” I find the institution’s refusal to take any responsibility now extremely wrong from both an ethical and moral standpoint. If this time limit had been clearly explained to me from the beginning, I would have made sure my child continued attending the course in some way so that we would not lose our entitlement. In addition, no educational materials, including books, were provided during the period when my child attended the course. It is unacceptable for an institution that presents itself as an educational provider to make promises to parents and then completely disregard those promises while placing all of the risk and resulting loss on us. I request that the two remaining courses that we paid for in advance but were unable to use be made available to my child without any additional charge and that our enrollment be reactivated so that my child can use the courses we have already paid for.
