Avis Pressured Me Into Paying an Extra 120,000 Serbian Dinars
Approximately four months before my July 1–12, 2026 trip to Belgrade, I made a car rental reservation through avis.com.tr for a total of €427. My reservation number was 1217-4303-TR-1, and the reserved vehicle was a Mercedes B180. I traveled believing that all rental terms and charges were covered by the quoted €427 price.
When I arrived at Belgrade Airport and went to the Avis office to pick up the vehicle, I was asked to pay an additional €600. The employee made me anxious by claiming that I could face serious problems in the event of an accident and that my existing coverage was insufficient. The employee continued trying to persuade me to purchase additional protection, and I was ultimately charged 120,000 Serbian dinars, which appeared as approximately $1,184 on my credit card statement. As a result, a rental initially advertised at €427 effectively doubled in price, causing me significant financial hardship.
After returning from my trip, I reported the situation to Avis Turkey. However, I was told that the charge was normal, and the company merely forwarded the response it had received from Avis Belgrade. I trusted Avis as a reputable international company, so being pressured through fear into paying substantial additional charges abroad was both surprising and deeply damaging to my trust in the brand.
I am requesting a detailed investigation into the additional charge imposed by the Avis office at Belgrade Airport, which was not clearly disclosed during the reservation process. I also request a refund of the portion that was unfairly collected from the total 120,000 Serbian dinars charged to my credit card.
