Arçelik Refused to Replace My Faulty Refrigerator After Multiple Service Visits

The problems I’ve been experiencing with my Arçelik refrigerator seem never-ending. I’ve called for service 15-20 times. There was rust and paint peeling on the inox doors, so we requested a door replacement under warranty. After the replacement, the doors stopped vacuum sealing properly. Normally, when we opened and closed the freezer section, there would be a strong vacuum, and it wouldn’t open easily for 20-30 seconds. Now, the freezer door opens with a light touch of the pinky finger. I dealt with this issue for weeks, maybe even months. Another technician came and replaced the door seals, but the problem wasn’t solved. The doors were still not sealing properly. Later, the fridge started making loud noises, and when it was opened and closed, it would cause the circuit breakers to trip. Arçelik came again and said the motor needed to be replaced. Two technicians, around 50-55 years old, came and complained about the narrow and poorly ventilated space where the fridge was placed, saying the motor would burn out because of this. They hesitated to even start working, saying they wouldn’t be able to remove or install the motor properly. After much difficulty, they replaced the motor and refilled the gas. We hoped that along with the new gas and motor, the door and vacuum issue would also be resolved. But the problem persisted. At this point, I no longer wanted the fridge and demanded a replacement. I asked how it was acceptable for a product to require service 15-20 times and insisted on a new unit. They refused my request, stating that replacement rights only apply within the first 6 months after the product has been opened and used and that I no longer had that right. I took the case to the Consumer Arbitration Committee, and they immediately approved a replacement for my washing machine. However, my request for the refrigerator was rejected because it was cooling properly and the doors were functioning minimally. They said the appeal period had passed. These issues happened around the 3rd or 4th months of 2023, and the washing machine was replaced around the 5th or 6th month of 2024. During this time, the refrigerator’s warranty expired. About 2-2.5 months ago, the refrigerator stopped cooling altogether. In the 8th or 9th month, we called for service again, and they told us that the refrigerator body had swollen, that it couldn’t be repaired, and that it needed to be replaced. However, since the warranty had expired, they demanded a payment of ₺24,500. I called the headquarters, explained everything, and they told me they would provide a temporary fridge so we wouldn’t be left without one. But the Kartaltepe and Küçükçekmece service centers said the fridge couldn’t be repaired and refused to provide a loaner unit. I went back to the Arbitration Committee, and it’s been 2.5 months, and we’re still waiting for Arçelik’s defense. For 2.5 months, we’ve been waiting for them to write their defense so the process can continue. Don’t even bother with Arçelik!
