I Couldn’t Travel to Istanbul Due to Protests But Airbnb Still Won’t Refund My Booking

March 26, 2025 2:12 AM10

I’m extremely disappointed with Airbnb and how they’ve handled my recent reservation in Istanbul. Due to ongoing protests and government-imposed travel restrictions, it was clearly unsafe and practically impossible for us to go. We contacted Airbnb and the host to request a refund, but no one is helping.

The host and Airbnb both claimed, “There’s no problem in Istanbul,” which is simply not true. The situation on the ground made it completely unreasonable to travel, and yet they refuse to accept reality or take responsibility. We were left stuck, with our money taken and no solution offered.

I expected better from Airbnb. They’re ignoring genuine safety concerns and leaving customers to deal with the consequences. I demand a full refund (₺) for a trip we couldn’t take due to clearly unsafe and unstable conditions. Airbnb must stop pretending there’s no issue and start protecting its users.
