Hello, I was browsing Airbnb just a short while ago, looking at rental homes and hotels in Izmir. Due to what seemed like a system glitch, I believed that my reservation hadn’t gone through. However, the host instantly approved it. Shortly after—within just 30 minutes—I found a different place that suited my needs better and tried to cancel. To my shock, the cancellation option showed no refund available even though barely half an hour had passed.
I contacted the host, who was understanding and even wanted to help. But they told me that if they canceled the booking, Airbnb would penalize them. So now I’m stuck with a full charge for a place I no longer want, even though the host agrees this was a platform-related issue.
Airbnb seriously needs to revise this policy. There should absolutely be a short grace period—at the very least a few hours—where users can cancel without losing their entire payment. I demand Airbnb offer a refund for my canceled booking and implement a fair short-term cancellation window to protect other users from the same issue.
