Airbnb Rep Promised $925 in Support Then Every Agent After Denied It

On January 3, I paid approximately $3,270 for a 15-night London reservation. Just days before our trip, in June, Airbnb canceled it — leaving me stranded with my 1-year-old baby, my 8-year-old child, and my elderly mother. Despite Airbnb being entirely responsible for this cancellation, instead of providing us with seamless alternative accommodation within our budget, they forced us to split our 15-night stay across two different properties.
I have official screenshots of all in-system communications. The first representative formally promised us "3 free hotel nights, paid by us." They even shared a full account breakdown confirming that the total 15-night cost came to approximately $4,560, and that with the hotel provision, our remaining cost would drop to approximately $3,635 — officially acknowledging a support value of approximately $925 owed to us. However, every one of the 10 different representatives I spoke with afterward denied this written commitment. One said "hotels aren't part of our policy," and the last one sent what amounted to a threatening message: "Either take a $700 coupon or get nothing at all."
They framed this as an exceptional gesture. With time running out and my children at risk of being left without accommodation, I was forced to accept this inadequate coupon. On top of Turkey's inflation and exchange rate burden, this situation has cost me an additional $870 in cash to book an equivalent holiday at June prices. Being forced to switch properties also means we will spend four hours on the streets of London with a baby and luggage between checkouts. As if that weren't enough, they also ruined our plans with friends who had traveled from Sweden specifically to be near us in Chelsea — what was a 3-minute distance between our accommodations became a 25-minute one.
Airbnb's AirCover guarantee is nothing but false advertising. This is a platform that refuses to stand behind its own staff's written commitments and pressures customers into accepting less than what they were promised. I accepted the coupon out of necessity but have never legally waived my rights. After our trip, armed with all of these written admissions, I will be filing a formal complaint with the Consumer Arbitration Committee to pursue the approximately $870 difference and the cost of the hotel that was promised to us.
