On March 12, 2025, at around 11:30 PM, I was browsing Agoda.com to check hotel prices for my planned trip to Italy. I clicked on the “next step” button just to see the full price details. Before the page even loaded, I immediately pressed the back button. I never reached the final "book now" confirmation step.
A few minutes later, I was shocked to receive a bank notification stating that ₺32,090.10 had been charged to my credit card by Agoda.com Mercure. When I checked my Agoda account, I saw that a reservation (No: 1567130776) had been made without my consent. Panicked, I clicked on "cancel reservation", only to be met with a "no refund" policy.
I immediately called my bank, questioning how my card could be charged without SMS approval or consent. The bank considered this a suspicious transaction and, with my approval, canceled my credit card. However, the ₺32,090.10 charge still appears on my statement, and my bank seems unwilling to intervene.
