In April, I made a reservation through the Agoda hotel booking website at the Sentido Orka Lotus Beach Hotel for 5 nights and 6 days from August 28, 2023, to September 02, 2023. The reservation number is 895386764. A week before our arrival, I contacted the hotel to check the reservation, and there were no issues.
On August 28, when I arrived at the hotel, our foreign passports were requested due to my Agoda booking. However, there was no explanation on the Agoda website about a specific price for foreign nationals. At the hotel reception, an additional 280 euros were demanded from us because we are not foreign citizens. We were not informed about this matter a week earlier when we contacted the hotel.
During check-in at the hotel, we were told that they could not inform us about this issue because they did not receive our phone numbers. The hotel stated that they need to contact Agoda customer representatives and demand a solution from them because the problem lies not with them but with the Agoda agency, and the sale to us was prohibited.
When I mentioned that I had booked through the Agoda website before and had never encountered such an issue, the hotel explained that they have no agreement with Agoda. They pointed out that Agoda, however, also sells to Turkish citizens, and they are also affected by this problem.
Nevertheless, the hotel continues to sell rooms to Turkish citizens through Agoda, causing problems for people. Many citizens, including us, do not want to return due to these circumstances, putting us in a difficult situation. Since we were not informed from one side, we request a refund of the additional fee and want the hotel to be informed about this so that our citizens do not have to face this problem alone.
