Agoda Charged Wrong Card for Porto Hotel Booking, Need Payment Moved to Visa
I booked a hotel stay through Agoda at Lounge Inn Guest House in Porto, Portugal, for October 4–6, 2025 (Reservation No: 1645470052). My booking included the option to cancel until October 2, 2025.
During the payment process, I had two credit cards saved in the system — a Mastercard and a Visa. I specifically wanted to pay with my Visa card, as it is set up for foreign currency payments. However, the charge was instead placed as a pending authorization on my Mastercard (for €101.42), where it is still showing.
I reported this issue to Agoda customer service multiple times in writing and even offered a suggested solution. A similar issue happened with another reservation in the past, and it was resolved. This time, I requested that the Mastercard authorization be canceled and that the “Pay Now” or “Update Credit Card” options on the Agoda website be reactivated so I could complete the payment with my Visa card. Instead, I was only advised to cancel my reservation and rebook — which is not an acceptable option for me, as prices have increased and I may lose the same room.
When Agoda called me, the language barrier prevented any resolution.
What I am requesting is simple: do not cancel my reservation. Instead, cancel the Mastercard authorization and reopen the payment option so I can pay with my Visa card through Agoda. All other terms of my reservation remain valid. I am not asking for a cancellation — only to switch my payment card.
