Wizz Air Charged Me €180 for Airport Check-In
On June 15, 2026, three families traveled from Ankara Esenboğa Airport to Budapest on a Wizz Air flight with PNR GKYMJP. Each family consisted of two adults and two children. Before the flight, I did not receive any email, text message, or other adequate notification informing me that completing online check-in was mandatory.
Although we arrived at the airport well in advance of our flight, we were informed at the check-in counter that each passenger was entitled to carry only one properly sized personal backpack. We had packed one bag for every two people, but because one of the bags did not fit into the baggage sizer, the airline staff instructed us to separate our belongings, and every bag was measured individually. After this process, we were told that the free online check-in period had expired and that we would have to pay a penalty. We were charged €45 per passenger, resulting in a total check-in fee of €180 for four passengers.
I believe this fee was unfair because passengers were not adequately informed that online check-in was mandatory. I have flown with many airlines before and have never encountered such a high mandatory airport check-in fee. Despite arriving at the airport well before departure, I was forced to pay an amount that was nearly as much as the airfare itself simply to complete the check-in process. In my opinion, Wizz Air failed to provide clear and sufficient notice of this requirement, which resulted in unnecessary financial loss.
For these reasons, I respectfully request a full refund of the €180 airport check-in fee that was collected from me on June 15, 2026, reimbursed in Turkish lira based on the exchange rate applicable on the date of the transaction.
