Sony A7 IV Warranty Repair Denied After Camera Failure

1

After taking only 3–4 photos with my Sony A7 IV camera, I started receiving an error message stating, “Turn the camera off and on again.” Because of this issue, I sent the camera last week to Özen-İş, which I understood to be an authorized Sony service center, and the camera has now been at the service center for approximately one week.

My camera is covered by a two-year warranty, and I experienced this problem before I had even owned the device for one full year. Despite this, the service center claimed that the camera had previously been opened and informed me that the repair would therefore not be covered under warranty. I was given a repair quote of 17,500 TL for replacement of the shutter and mainboard components. The camera has absolutely never been opened or repaired before. It has only been used by me and has remained in its original condition since I took it out of the box.

I strongly dispute both the decision to exclude my camera from warranty coverage based on the claim that it had previously been opened and the high repair fee being requested from me. I request that Sony Türkiye and Özen-İş repair my camera free of charge under the warranty. If the camera cannot be repaired under warranty, I request that I be provided with a brand-new, fully functional Sony A7 IV as a replacement.

I also request that all records relating to my camera, including the service notes and warranty status, be reviewed and corrected so that they accurately reflect the actual condition and history of the device.

The authorized service called and demanded half of the fee, saying they would cover the other half themselves. I do not accept this either because I was sold a defective product.

The authorized service called and said they are demanding half of the fee, but I do not accept this because I was sold a defective product; I want it either to be replaced with a new one or for the charge not to be applied to me.

I bought a Sony A7 IV camera in Turkey with a warranty, and after using it without any problems for about a year, a fault occurred and I sent it to an authorized service center. The service inspection revealed that this camera, which I purchased as brand‑new, sealed‑box, had previously been repaired. I definitely did not have that repair done; if it had such a repair history, I would not have chosen a guaranteed, brand‑new product. The service quoted me a repair fee of 17,500 TL. I then reported the situation to Sony’s relevant authorities by e‑mail. Afterwards the authorized service called me and offered to split the cost. I find it completely unprofessional for a major brand like Sony to handle a product that was sold to me as brand‑new, sealed‑box, yet was found to have been repaired before. From this I understand that either the camera was previously second‑hand and then re‑boxed before being sent to me, or Sony repaired the camera earlier and later sold it as brand‑new. As a consumer who paid for a brand‑new, never‑repaired product, I now have a device that has clearly been repaired before. I demand that this grievance be resolved immediately by sending me a truly brand‑new, sealed‑box Sony A7 IV. If that is not possible, I expect my current camera to be repaired at no cost whatsoever, with my warranty rights fully honored.
