I Face Unauthorized $32 PayPal Charge After Shopify Trial and Refund Refusal

July 16, 2025 6:28 PM4

I signed up for Shopify’s three-month trial and saw a $1 charge on my PayPal for the trial period. Once the trial ended, my store went offline because I didn’t upgrade. While deciding whether to continue, I noticed that Shopify automatically withdrew $32 from my overseas bank account via PayPal—without any warning.

I immediately requested a refund, and Shopify support told me, “Close your store first, then we can consider a refund.” I closed the store as instructed, yet they later emailed me that “we are under no obligation to issue a refund.” This bait-and-switch “PayPal withdrawal” and “refund refused” tactic is unacceptable. They’ve charged me for a service I never used.

I demand Shopify process a full $32 refund immediately and provide a clear explanation of this unauthorized billing practice. Please resolve this billing error now.
