I Face $140 Closure Fee to Delete My Unused Shopify Store Subscription

July 16, 2025 7:01 PM12

I opened a Shopify store account on the Basic plan but never launched my site or added products. When I finally decided to close the account, Shopify informed me I must pay a $140 subscription fee before they will terminate my store. I don’t understand why I should pay for a service I never used.

Over the past months, I repeatedly tried deleting my store via the dashboard. Each time, I received a “Delete store” confirmation and believed the account was closed. However, billing continued and the store remained active. Now Shopify insists I owe $140 to cancel—even though I’ve never benefited from the service.

This “closure fee” and “continued billing” for an unused service is unacceptable. I demand Shopify immediately cancel my store without charging me and confirm in writing that no further fees will accrue.
