Rentalcars Denied Refund After OK Mobility Office Closed at Athens Airport
I rented a car for 6 days from www.rentalcars.com to be picked up at Athens Airport. Due to a flight delay and passport control queues, I was only able to exit the terminal at 22:30 (I had originally indicated a pickup time of 21:30). Because the airport office of the rental provider, OK Mobility, closes at 22:00, I was stranded that night and was forced to rent another vehicle from a different company for one day. When I went to the OK Mobility office the following morning, I was told that because I did not collect the car the previous day, the entire reservation was canceled and they could not provide a vehicle! Here are the core issues:
During the online booking process on the website, there was no warning that the office closes at 22:00. Had I known, I could have chosen a different rental company (for example, Europcar and Sixt were open at that hour).
I received no notification warning me that the reservation was fully canceled. They could have inquired about the cause or held the car until the following day.
Rentalcars.com failed to respond to my initial inquiry.
When I wrote again, they replied stating there was nothing they could do and that a refund was impossible. Keeping the first day's fee would have been acceptable, but refunding the remaining 5 days would have been fair.
Travel delays are common occurrences. I find it unacceptable that they provide no solutions for such situations. Due to this poor service, I had to rent another vehicle at a significantly higher rate.
In summary, there are many other ways to rent a car. Stay away from Rentalcars.com.
