I recently bought the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, and I’m seriously disappointed with a frustrating issue that should not exist on a phone at this level. Whenever I open Instagram or YouTube, the screen refresh rate instantly drops to 60Hz—even though the phone supports higher refresh rates. This ruins the smooth experience I was expecting and makes scrolling feel laggy and outdated.
What’s worse is that the auto refresh rate adjustment can’t be turned off. It’s locked in the system, and there’s no way for the user to force a higher refresh rate on specific apps. I’ve tried every workaround and setting I could find, but unless you're a tech expert, it's nearly impossible to fix manually. It’s clearly a software issue, and yet after sending the phone to the service center, I was told “there’s no problem.”
That’s unacceptable. It is a problem. A phone this new and capable should not be throttling basic app performance. I paid for fluid, high-refresh visuals, and I’m stuck watching content like it’s 2015.
Xiaomi needs to acknowledge this issue publicly and fix it in the next software update. Don't leave users waiting and hoping for a solution that may never come. We deserve full control over our phone’s performance—especially when it directly impacts how we use the most popular apps.
