I Got Sick After Qatar Airways Refused to Fix a Freezing Cabin for 14 Hours
On 07/07/2026, I experienced a serious air conditioning problem on my Qatar Airways flights from Thailand to Doha, and then Doha to Istanbul. The inside of the plane was freezing cold, and even though we repeatedly pointed this out, the air conditioning level was never lowered at all. When I told the cabin crew about the situation, they only handed me one more blanket, but no adjustment was made to the air conditioning.
Throughout this roughly 14-hour journey, many people on the plane were sneezing and coughing, and by the end of the flight, I too got off the plane with a sore throat, constant sneezing, chills, and clear signs of illness. My vacation, which I had planned for a long time, was completely ruined under these conditions. The vacation I had expected to be enjoyable ended up resulting in a health problem on the way back because of this negligent handling. I went on vacation to a different country, and now I'll have to start work sick, which is negatively affecting my health, my work schedule, and my mental state. This experience has worn me down so much that I won't want to get on a plane again for a long time.
I am requesting that all of this — the unhealthy flight conditions I was exposed to and my ruined vacation — be taken into consideration, and that my ticket fare be refunded given this long and uncomfortable flight. I expect the in-flight temperature settings to be handled with more care going forward to prevent similar situations from happening again, and I expect passenger feedback to actually be taken seriously.
