Qatar Airways Poorly Managed Flight Cancellation, Disrupted Travel Plans

I'm writing about the poor handling of a flight cancellation by Qatar Airways. On July 29, 2024, we were scheduled to depart from Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 07:25 and arrive in Doha, Qatar, at 11:35, with a connecting flight to Denpasar, Indonesia, at 17:30. If things had gone as planned, we would have waited only 6 hours at Doha Airport before boarding our connecting flight.

Initially, we were informed that there was a minor technical issue with the plane, and they told us the doors would open at 08:00. However, this timeline kept getting extended, and by around 09:30, we found out—only after asking the staff at the boarding gate ourselves—that the flight would not take off. Shortly after, we were told that we would receive new flight details and information about our connecting flight.

Eventually, we were informed that our new flight time was 13:40, with the connecting flight rescheduled for the next day at 02:00. This meant we would have to wait over 8 hours during our layover and reach Denpasar by the evening of our first vacation day, effectively wasting a full day of our holiday. They offered a meal voucher at Burger King, but it was poorly managed—you go in, they ask if you want chicken or beef, and you’re given a fixed menu with no choices for drinks other than cola, the smallest fries, no sauces, and no room for any changes.

The mishandling of this situation, lack of communication, and inadequate compensation were incredibly disappointing. It’s frustrating to have the first day of our vacation wasted due to mismanagement, and the subpar meal offering just added to the negative experience.
