Mold in an Owala lid gasket usually forms because moisture gets trapped under the silicone seal, so the first step is to remove the gasket completely from the lid.
Wash it thoroughly with warm water, dish soap, and a small brush or toothbrush to clean the groove and the rubber seal where mold often hides.
For deeper cleaning, soak the gasket and lid parts in a mixture of white vinegar and warm water (about 1:1) or use diluted hydrogen peroxide for about 10–15 minutes. These solutions help kill mold and bacteria without damaging the silicone used in most bottle seals.
After cleaning, rinse all parts well and allow them to dry completely before reassembling the lid. Letting the gasket air-dry outside the lid helps prevent moisture buildup, which is one of the main reasons mold grows in reusable bottle seals.
If the mold stains remain or the gasket smells musty even after cleaning, it may be safer to replace the gasket or lid, since silicone can sometimes retain mold deep inside.
